Captain Fanplastic & Ivanhoe Mines Join Forces at Mosesane Baloyi Primary

Publish date: 21 May 2024

Launched in 2018, the Captain Fanplastic initiative is aimed at enhancing environmental literacy among the youth through interactive learning.  Its goal is to globally combat plastic pollution through management, prevention, and reduction strategies. Fast forward to 2023, and we’re proud to once again partner with Soapbox South Africa to bring the program to the eager learners at Mosesane Baloyi Primary School in Tshamahansi.

This collaboration is more than just an educational endeavor; it’s an embodiment of Ivanhoe Mines’ collective commitment to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). By integrating a curriculum designed to address crucial topics such as waste management and the impacts of littering, we’re equipping the next generation with the knowledge and skills to navigate and protect our planet.

The introduction of the program coincided with our annual SDG Awareness Day, igniting a spark of motivation among the students. The result? An inspiring commitment from 140 young individuals, ready to take a stand and minimize their waste footprint.
