Kamoa-Kakula’s Project 95 is moving steadily forward, now passing the halfway mark with over 55% of the work complete. The team is targeting early in the second quarter of 2026 for completion, an important milestone for one of the world’s largest copper projects.
Project 95 is all about pushing the boundaries of what’s possible in copper recovery. The goal is to boost the recovery rate for the Phase 1 and 2 concentrators to 95%, a significant jump from the original design rate of 87%. This improvement is based on processing high-grade ore averaging 5% copper, which would place Kamoa-Kakula among the industry’s best in terms of efficiency and output.
During the interim period, while the Kakula Mine is undergoing turnaround, a portion of the ore feed to the Phase 1 and 2 concentrators, sourced from both the Kakula and Kamoa mines, will be of lower grade. Even so, the engineering team is determined to maintain a recovery rate of at least 90% from the lower grade sources while the higher-grade feed is temporarily unavailable.
Kamoa-Kakula is proving that with the right focus and expertise, big leaps in recovery and efficiency are within reach.
