Material Topics

Understanding what matters most in sustainability starts with seeing the full picture. Our materiality assessment process looks at sustainability issues from two critical angles: how our actions impact people and the environment, and how these same issues could affect our company’s financial health. Guided by the GRI Universal Standards (GRI 3: Material Topics 2021), our 2024 assessment put stakeholders at the center, identifying and evaluating the topics that matter through both an impact and a financial lens. This process helps us identify, prioritize, and act on the most pressing sustainability issues facing our business now and in the future. The insights we gain shape our sustainability strategy, set our objectives, and inform our annual reporting. Above all, they ensure we are focused on the topics that matter most, while keeping sight of the broader landscape of sustainability issues across our operations.

We put respect for human rights at the heart of everything we do. Our approach is shaped by the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights, the International Labour Organization’s core standards, and other recognized international frameworks set out in our Group Human Rights Policy. We believe that upholding these principles isn’t just the right thing to do, but is essential for building a more sustainable future and tackling global issues like modern slavery, gender-based violence, and the just transition to a low-carbon economy. Responsible Sourcing

At Ivanhoe Mines, responsible sourcing is a core value that shapes how we do business across the globe. We’re committed to meeting the highest standards, not just by following local laws wherever we operate, but by aligning with respected international frameworks. We hold ourselves accountable to principles set by the United Nations Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights (UNGPs), the OECD Guidelines, the London Metal Exchange Policy, the Conflict-Free Gold Standard, and more. As a Toronto Stock Exchange-listed company, we also meet rigorous Canadian requirements like the Fighting Against Forced Labour and Child Labour in Supply Chains Act.

Our responsible sourcing approach is a cross-functional effort that draws on expertise from procurement, operations, finance, sustainability, legal, and marketing. This collaboration enables us to protect the integrity of our supply chain at every stage. For us, responsible sourcing is not a checklist—it’s a core part of building a more sustainable and ethical future for the industry.

Advancing the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)

Ivanhoe Mines is proud to support the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, a global blueprint to achieve a better and more sustainable future for all. We recognize that all 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are interconnected and essential to delivering long-term value for society, the environment, and the economy.

While we acknowledge the importance of the full SDG framework, Ivanhoe has identified eight priority SDGs where we believe our operations can make the most significant impact:

Membership Affiliations

Ivanhoe Mines partners with leading industry organizations to advance global standards for responsible mining and sustainability goals. We reinforced this commitment by joining the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC), the International Copper Association (ICA), the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI), and the Minerals Council of South Africa. Through active engagement with such groups, , we support global efforts to reduce carbon emissions and promote best practices. Our leadership team also contributes to international policy discussions, ensuring our operations align with evolving standards for governance, transparency, and environmental stewardship.

Looking ahead, we are actively pursuing certification from the Copper Mark, and working to fully align with the Global Industry Standard on Tailings Management (GISTM) to further strengthen our environmental and social performance.
