Mr. Hannaford began his career in the South African mining industry of the 1970s after receiving his B.Sc. in Chemical Engineering from the University of Cape Town. After spending two decades working in nickel and copper metallurgical roles, Mr. Hannaford moved to North America to work first for Newmont Gold Co. and later Falconbridge, overseeing the expansions, rationalization and consolidation of its merger with Noranda. Since 2004 Mr. Hannaford has been a director of CVMR Corporation.
Mr. Hannaford is a member of the London Institute of Mining and Metallurgy, the American Institute of Metallurgical Engineers and the South African Institute of Mining and Metallurgy.
